Elven Rangers and heroes
I am almost finished the two 2000 point armies that I set out to build for Oathmark. The Elf and Dwarf list is now finished and I only have a few characters and one unit of cavalry to finish for the undead.
The last Elven unit was the five Mounted Rangers.
These are a mix of the Elven Cavalry models as well as the Elven Light Infantry models. The horses and the bodies from the cavalry and the heads and arms from the Light Infantry. I am not really happy with the poses of the riders. If I do another set of these I will try to make them look like they are shooting forward.
Aside from that, the models were a lot of fun to paint. I was dreading them but once I got them primed and I started painting they were easy to do. The Speedpaint also looks a lot better on them that I expected.
The Elven heroes are from some of the various metal blisters that North Star sells.
I quite like the wizard but my favourite of the set has to be the warrior with the horn. I just really like the pose. These also took the Speedpaint much better than I thought they would. The only exception are the faces which didn’t get as much primer on them due to the faux zenithal priming I am doing with some rattle cans. I will have to make sure that the next set get a proper layer of primer on the faces.
The final addition was a proxy model for the Undead catapult. I actually have a ‘skull chucker’ model with crew that I rebased with this set of figures. I wanted to have a more interesting model on the table and so I put the Casket of Souls model from Max Mini on a 50mm x 100mm base. Oathmark uses that as a standard base size for artillery. This will act as a catapult (soul energy blasting units) and also as a thematic element in the army. It will gather the souls of slain models on the battle field and then use them to resuscitate other undead models.
Initially this model was on its own (just the casket plus the three models) but with the added space on the 50x100mm base I thought it would be fun to add an entourage to the model. It makes it look more important. There are musicians at the front announcing its presence as well as two spearmen at the rear helping to guard it. I always thought that the existing models from various manufacturers didn’t really give the artifact its due gravitas.
Next on the painting table as three more character units and the 10 model unit of Undead cavalry.
The original army list had two mounted figures, a Champion and a General. Sadly I don’t have the models for two mounted characters and so the one model I did paint will have to be the General and I will have to use an existing cavalry model and just indicate that it is a Champion when I play. The other characters are a Revenant Warrior Champion and a generic character that I may use as a Champion for the Spearmen or some other unit Champion. The other model is an Elven character that will be used as a Champion model for the Elven Soldier unit.
