Painting update - Aug 19 2025

I may have finished the models I need for my 2000pt armies but I am still continuing to paint and assemble.

Two Elf Ballistas

I finished the two GW Elf Ballista teams. I painted them to match my Elf force and also to make them not look like High Elves. The Dark Wood Speedpaint colour was, I thought, a bit too dark for this model so I added a touch of yellow to it to make it a touch brighter. As you would expect, the paint doesn’t do as well on flat surfaces and so I had to stipple and drybrush some brown over the wood parts.

You can’t see it as most of the plain metal is on the underside of the model but I ran into the same issue with the silver Speedpaint coming out flat with very little definition. I wonder if I have a bad batch of that colour?

These Games Workshop models are the definitive Elven artillery and so I feel better having some to add to the army. My previous Elven force only had a single team so this helps add some punch. Additionally, I built both teams so I can use them as different weapon types in Age of Fantasy Regiments.

16 resin Skeleton Soldiers

One the painting table are 15 Skeleton Soldiers and a Skeleton Champion. As with the other Max Mini models these are a bit fussy with a lot of additional detail on them. Not sure it is necessary for a rank-and-flank model. They will look nice when they are done but I could do without a few of the knickknacks on the models.

Three Orc Characters

And here are three more Orc characters. I have far more than I need but it was easier to paint them all at once than individually. The banner bearer will be used as a King/General and the other two will be used as Champions where/when needed. The banner bearer is a metal miniature. I am not sure where it is from. The other two are built from some Mantic Orc parts.

Two Undead and an Elf walk into a battle…

And finally three more characters on the painting table - two Undead and one Elf. The Elf character is fairly basic. The sculpt also has a bit of an odd face. I am not sure if it is a casting error or just an odd sculpt. She will act as a Champion for the Elf Spear unit. The Undead banner bearer will also act as a King/General. I am really becoming quite fond of the ida of representing higher level characters with a model that stands out like this. The final model is another Revenant Champion. I have another 15-20 of the Revenant Warrior models that I can paint up if I want to. They won’t be done any time soon as I want to take a break from painting models with so many details on them.
