Goblin Slaves are a go!

I have managed to finish up two more units for my Oathmark army project - two units of Goblin Slaves. One unit of 15 is armed with slings and a second unit of 10 is armed with hand weapons.

These are both made with the Goblin Slave plastic kit from North Star Figures. These were a breeze to put together as well as quite simple to paint.

Goblin Slave Slingers

I am quite fond of the faces on these models. They have great expressions and the features on their faces are very crisp. Probably my favourite of the Oathmark plastic kits. So far.

I painted these with a mix of Vallejo Xpress colours and Army Painter Speedpaints. I had Mummy White from the Xpress range for the Mummies I was painting. I used it on their wrappings. So I used that colour for the bindings on their feet. I didn’t have a suitable green in the Speedpaint range (my FLGS has quite low stock) and so I grabbed the Ork Skin colour from the Xpress range. It went on quite well and has a nice ‘pop’. It has a slight yellow tint to it that helps differentiate it from other greens.

It also went on quite well. It was easy to control which isn’t something that I have encountered with a lot of the Xpress range previously. This does, I think, point to some inconsistency in the various paints in the Xpress range.

The rest of the models were done with Speedpaints. I used a base of Greylord Grey with a drop of a random brown or green to make the colour for the robes. I wanted them to look like a rabble but with a similar colour tone across the units. The metal was done with a 2:1 mix of Broadsword Silver and Bright Red. I wanted the metal to have a ‘metallic’ look but also to have the colour be slightly corroded. I have a bad habit of mixing the Army Painter Speedpaints to come up with custom colours. Sometimes it works :-)

These photos were taken using the same camera and light box. The difference is that I used Apple Photos on my Mac to do the editing. I was using Affinity Photo 2 to do the colour correction in my previous photos but Photos has some very good tools to do white balance correction as well as levels and curves. I think these came out better than my previous attempts.

Next on the list are the Elven Mounted Rangers as well as rebasing some Undead models.
